Week 1 - Intro & Cloud Computing
Hello, I'm Shauna and welcome to my Cloud Computing class blog.
Cloud computing offers different types of services that help businesses and individuals work smarter and more efficiently. The most common categories include Software as a Service (SaaS), where you use software online without installing it; Platform as a Service (PaaS), which provides tools for developers to build apps without worrying about hardware; and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), where you rent virtual servers and storage instead of owning physical equipment. There’s also Anything as a Service (XaaS), a flexible mix of cloud solutions, and Function as a Service (FaaS), which runs small bits of code only when needed, saving time and costs.
Each type has its own benefits and limitations, but together they form a layered cloud “stack” that businesses can use to meet their specific needs. Whether you want easy access to software, streamlined app development, or scalable infrastructure, understanding these cloud services makes it easier to choose the right fit and stay ahead in today’s fast-paced digital world.
